Schengen visa for Indian passport holders living in the UAE

If you hold an Indian passport and live in the UAE, you apply for your Schengen visa here, not in India. Here is what that means for your documents, your residence visa and your chances of a longer visa.

Where you apply

Apply in the UAE, at the visa centre of the country you will spend most nights in (or the country you enter first, if the nights are equal). Embassies in the UAE accept your application because you are a legal UAE resident. You do not need to fly to India.

Your UAE residence visa should stay valid for at least 3 months after your visa ends. Germany's mission in the UAE, for example, asks for a residence permit "valid at least three months" beyond the visa you request. If yours expires sooner, renew it first.

Documents for an Indian passport holder in the UAE

Indian passport, issued in the last 10 years, valid 3 months after you return, with 2 blank pages. Older passports with previous visas help, so bring them.
UAE residence visa and Emirates ID (copies).
Employer NOC or salary certificate, on letterhead. See our NOC letter sample.
Last 3 to 6 months of UAE bank statements, stamped by the bank.

What about multi-year visas for Indians?

In April 2024 the EU adopted a special "cascade" for Indian nationals: after two Schengen visas used correctly in three years, a 2-year multiple-entry visa, then normally 5 years. The EU delegation describes it for Indians residing in India who apply in India. Applying from the UAE, you fall under the general Schengen rules instead, where a good travel history can still earn you a longer multiple-entry visa. Ask for multiple entry on your form and show your past visas.
