Schengen visa cover letter: what to write, with a sample

A cover letter tells the visa officer in one page why you are travelling, what you will do, who pays and why you will come back. It ties your documents together.

What to include

Who you are: full name, nationality, passport number, and where you live (UAE residence visa or CNIC).
The visa you want: single-entry or multiple-entry short-stay visa, and the purpose (tourism, family visit, business).
Your dates and route: arrival and departure, and the cities you will stay in.
Who pays: yourself, your sponsor or your company.
Your ties to home: your job, family, property or studies that you return to.
A list of the documents you enclose.
