How the 90/180 rule works
- Look back 180 days from any day of your stay.
- Count every day you were in the Schengen area in that window, including entry and exit days.
- That number must never go above 90.

- What is the Schengen 90/180 rule?
- With a short-stay Schengen visa you can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The 180-day window moves day by day, so on every day of your stay you look back 180 days and count the days you were in the Schengen area.
- Do the entry and exit days count?
- Yes. The day you enter and the day you leave both count as full days in the Schengen area.
- Do days in different Schengen countries add up?
- Yes. All Schengen countries count together as one area.
- Is this calculator official?
- No. It follows the rule in the Schengen Borders Code, but border officers decide. The European Commission also publishes an official short-stay calculator.
This calculator is a planning aid and not legal advice. Border officers decide. Last updated: 1 November 2026.
